SERVICES

The overall objective for the consultant is to facilitate regional networking strategy development support to an emerging Alliance of free expression organisations in Africa. It is expected that the process will result in a strategic and an operational plan for the network and a defined coordination mechanism.

Specifically, the consultant will:

  • Review and analyse relevant information about the organisations’ interest in working together, including holding conversations with some participants
  • Work with the participant organisations in the planning, implementation and follow up of two strategic meetings, including the preparation of relevant documents and participation in appropriate planning meetings
  • Facilitate two strategic meetings (includes relevant preparation and follow up),
  • Contribute technical expertise to ensure the success of the process respecting the opinions and priorities of the participating organisations at all times
  • Provide guidance on the way ahead, including ensuring the development of a strategic plan for the network, coordination and operational mechanisms and areas for action
  • Provide the necessary accompaniment and follow up to the process, including monitoring and evaluation mechanisms

The participant organisations will:

  • Develop the sessions for the regional meeting in consultation with one another and with the input of the consultant
  • Provide verbal and documentation background to the consultant on the issues and priorities of the emerging network (e.g., summary/notes from recent planning meetings and assessments)
  • Provide logistical support to the consultant for the sessions, including travel and accommodation arrangements for the determined meeting periods

Qualifications required

  • Knowledge of and experience with networks and alliance      building, strategic planning and institutional strengthening
  • Experience working on human rights issues in      Africa. Knowledge of the right to freedom of expression an asset
  • Knowledge of French and Portuguese an asset
  • Based in Africa
  • Availability from August 2013
