Mr. Ikechukwu Udendu, the Editor of Onitsha-based monthly newspaper, Anambra News, was on January 12, 2013 shot dead by suspected assassins on his way home.  He was killed on his way back to Ogidi in Anambra state, where he lives, after he had gone to Onitsha  to monitor the printing of the newspaper.

Mr. Chukwulozie Udendu, the elder brother to the journalist, who is also the publisher of the newspaper, said he received an anonymous phone call on Saturday night telling him to pick up his brother’s corpse where is was dumped in front of a restaurant at Afor Nkpor.  He said his late brother had no grouse with anyone that could have warranted his killing. He also believed that his brother was killed somewhere else and dumped at Afor Nkpor since there was no trace of blood around the vicinity.

Ikechukwu Udendu’s corpse was taken to the Iyi-Enu Hospital Mortuary in Ogidi.

The murder has been reported to the police and the state Police Commissioner, Mr. Ballah Nasarawa, has promised to carry out an investigation and bring the culprits to justice.
