Alliance for Science Launches Journalism Fellowship

The Alliance for Science at Cornell University has launched its agricultural science journalism fellowships and is accepting applications from qualified journalists.

The program seeks to promote in-depth, contextualized reporting on topics/issues related to food security, crop production, biotechnology and sustainable agricultural practices.

It is open to individual and teams of journalists who can submit a project for the fellowship. Collaborating teams must include two individuals; one each from a developing and a developed country.

The individual fellowship track awards between US$5,000 and US$15,000 while collaborative journalism awards up to US$25,000.

To be eligible for consideration, applications must include:

  • Indication of Fellowship Track (Individual or Collaborative)
  • A description of the proposed project in not more than 1000 words, including indication of media outlet and the distribution plan.
  • A detailed budget estimate, including a breakdown of travel costs, and if applying for a Collaborative Fellowship, indicate how the money will be shared across team members’ contributions
  • Three samples of published work preferably representative of the media proposed for the project. In the case of Collaborative Fellowships all members of the proposed team must submit three samples.
  • One to two letters of recommendation. Letters from prospective producers or editors encouraged.
  • A copy of the resume of each applicant.
  • Project start and completion date.
