International Open Data Conference Set For October 2016

The Open Data Research Symposium (ODRS) programme committee has announced that ahead of the International Open Data Conference 2016 (#IODC16), which is to hold on  October 6 and 7, 2016, the second Open Data Research Symposium (#ODRS16) will be taking place on October 5, 2016.

The ODRS offers open data researchers the opportunity to reflect critically on the findings of their completed research and to create cohesion within the research community on the prospects and challenges of unlocking the potential of open data to promote social progress.

This year’s Symposium will involve three key activities including sharing of key findings, developing a common research infrastructure and identifying gaps and questions that can further both theory and practice. Each of these activities will focus on how to increase the understanding of open data’s use and impacts:

The fundamental timeline of activities are as follows:

April 11, 2016: Call for Abstracts opens

May 30, 2016: Extended abstract submissions due

July 1, 2016: Deadline for Call for Questions

July 15, 2016: Accepted authors notified

September 1, 2016: Full papers due

October 5, 2016: Open Data Research Symposium

As Open Data becomes firmly cemented in the policy mainstream, ODRS provides a veritable platform for addressing the resultant pressing need to dig deeper into the dynamics of how open data operates in practice as well as to nurture theories that explain these dynamics.
