Broadcast Journalist Killed by Unknown Gunmen

NUJ-620x350At about 8pm  on July 8, 2017, Mr. Lawrence Okojie, a reporter with the Nigerian Television Authority(NTA), Benin- City, the Edo State capital, was shot dead by unknown gunmen at Siluko road in Benin City. Lawrence was returning home from work and was just a few metres from his home.

The incident happened shortly after Lawrence alighted from a taxi cab, close to his residence, after the close of the day’s work. He was reported to have called his pregnant wife after he alighted from the taxi cab to inform her that he was close to his house but his wife did not see him hours after his call.

The wife reprtedly raised alarm after waiting for so long and the husband was not taking  her calls following repeated calls to his phone.

Lawrence’s body, found in a pool of his blood was later deposited in the mortuary. The motive for his assassination is still unknown.

Mr. Moses Nkombe, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) confirmed the assassination adding that one person has been arrested in connection with the assassination.
