Knight Foundation Holds International Symposium on Online Journalism

The Knight Foundation will hold the 18th International Symposium on Online Journalism (ISOJ) at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas, in the United States on April 21 and 22, 2017.

The event will feature top journalists, media executives, producers, and academics from around the world to discuss the latest trends, issues and innovations in online journalism.

ISOJ, an annual event, has consistently featured experts on the transformational impact of digital technology on journalism. Topics of previous symposia include changing business models, news formats, audience development and engagement, reporting tools, ethics, mobile and more.

Live streaming of the event will be available at isoj.org, including a special channel with translation to Spanish. The event will be simultaneously translated in both ways from English to Spanish and Spanish to English.

On April 20, the day before the official start of ISOJ, women journalists from Texas and Mexico will discuss transparency, credibility and other journalistic values during an era of heightened political divisiveness in both countries.

ISOJ started in 1999 as a small, but very intense one-day conference but became international in 2003. Since then, ISOJ has had participants from Africa, Asia, Oceania, Europe and Latin America.

ISOJ was created and is still organized by Professor Rosental Calmon Alves, Knight Chair in International Journalism and UNESCO Chair in Communication at the University of Texas at Austin’s School of Journalism at the Moody College of Communication.
