Unidentified Gunmen Kill Journalist in Bayelsa

Mr. Famous Giobaro, a Desk Editor with the Bayelsa State owned Glory FM 97.1 was, in the early hours of April 16, 2017, shot dead in his residence at INEC Road, Kpasia in Yenagoa by unidentified gunmen who got in his apartment through the kitchen entrance.

The attackers accessed the bungalow by scaling through the fence then went straight to the kitchen door, shot at it and pulled it down to enter the journalist’s bedroom. The deceased was thereafter shot on his stomach.
Two unidentified men who slept in the same apartment with the deceased reportedly hid in the wardrobe and toilet when the gunmen came in.

The attackers reportedly did not steal anything and they did not attack other occupants of the bungalow, triggering speculations they were assassins.

Asinim Butswat, a Deputy Superintendent of Police and the spokesman to the Bayelsa State Police Command, confirming the incident said that full details of the case would be revealed later.
NUJ Chairman, Mr. John Angese and Secretary, Mr. Stanley Imgbi said the attack on the deceased came as a shock to the Bayelsa Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

The union stated that the death of the deceased was a huge loss and urged the Police to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to book.
